Key terms and concepts behind IntelliGuard's edge AI technology.
Edge AI
Artificial intelligence processing that runs directly on local hardware (e.g. an appliance in-store) rather than sending data to a remote cloud server. Enables real-time decisions with full data privacy.
Visible concealment
The act staff can see on camera - pocketing, bagging, or hiding items in clothing. IntelliGuard flags that event and where it happened.
Dwell Time
The duration a person spends in a specific area of the store. Abnormally high dwell time in high-shrink zones can indicate theft preparation or suspicious behaviour.
Shrinkage
The loss of retail inventory due to theft, fraud, damage, or administrative error. Australian pharmacies lose an average of $52,000 per year to shrinkage (NRA 2022).
Concealment Detection
AI-powered identification of the physical act of hiding merchandise - placing items into bags, jackets, prams, or other containers. IntelliGuard detects concealment in real time on your cameras.
False Positive
An alert triggered when no actual theft is occurring. IntelliGuard's adaptive AI continuously learns to reduce false positives, minimising unnecessary staff interventions.
NVR (Network Video Recorder)
A hardware device that records and stores video from IP cameras. IntelliGuard connects directly to your existing NVR - no new cameras or wiring required.
VMS (Video Management System)
Software used to manage, view, and record video from surveillance cameras. IntelliGuard integrates with any ONVIF-compatible VMS regardless of brand.
ONVIF
Open Network Video Interface Forum - an industry standard that ensures interoperability between IP cameras and recording systems from different manufacturers.
Optional repeat-offender matching
If you turn it on, staff can match someone they already flagged. The system does not keep a photo mugshot library. Matching stays staff-controlled.
On-premises processing
Detection runs on hardware in your store. Video does not need a cloud round-trip to get an answer.
